Budget 2024-2025: Seema Kapoor gives her verdict

Actress Seema Kapoor, who is known for shows such as Bidaai, Hasratein, Naagin, Hum Saath Aath Hain and Udaariyaan, says that while she is satisfied with the budget, there are few changes she was hoping it would bring with it. Removal of indexation is one such thing which should have not happened

“Overall it's not a very satisfactory Budget considering the unnecessary increase of LTCG Tax and STCG Tax on investments. Removal of indexation is a highly disappointing move by the Hon'ble Finance Minister,” she says.

She adds, “Definitely we were looking for major reforms for the Banking sector, so that the corruption can be curbed down in this sector. The finance minister should have given complete relief to the victims of Punjab and Maharashtra co-operative banks by returning their full money, who are suffering and dying for no reason. The unnecessary 30% Crypto tax should have been removed completely, what is the point of this tax when the government is already taking income tax.”

The duties on gold and silver have been slashed from 15% to 6%. Talking about the same, he says, “Slashing Duties on Gold is a good step, but more than that the finance minister should have focused on controlling fuel prices by including petrol and diesel into the GST system. Inflation can be controlled majorly by controlling fuel prices.”

She adds, “Every country's creditworthiness is determined by its Gold Reserves. So, In my view Gold is the best asset around the globe. Diamonds can be a luxury item but can never be a good investment. Nothing can be compared to gold in terms of good investment or asset.”
