Actor Saanand Verma, who is part of the show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, says that social media is a very important tool that should be used by all artists. He adds that the medium is highly influential, and thus, we should be careful of what we post as well.
“Definitely social media life. It is very important. It is the reality of today's life, and I believe in going with the flow. So, I respect and appreciate social media because it has a wide reach. Likes, followers, or views on social media have a significant impact on society. There are people who create harmful videos that negatively affect society and humanity. However, if videos have a meaningful message that benefits society and provides entertainment value, social media can be a positive platform,” he says.
Social media is often viewed as a double-edged sword, he says, adding, “As an actor, social media gives us recognition. My reels and shorts gain popularity on social media. Television shows and even memes on social media can increase our reach. Social media has provided a platform where artists get recognition and can connect with more people.”
Ask him how he looks at social media popularity, and he says, “My reels and shorts go viral, and stars use the original sounds from my videos. I am grateful to my social media fans for their kind comments and support. I am extremely happy and glad. Any popularity is credible, and people who are popular are lucky and chosen. There are reasons behind their popularity. Without any reason, nobody can be popular. The reason should be positive, good, and something to be proud of. It is important to be famous for good reasons, not infamous. Social media can create negativity with weird acts and abusive content, but one should be popular for good reasons.”
Views are often based on an algorithm that keeps changing, says the actor, adding, “When creating content, it's important to stay focused and not get frustrated. Creativity involves a process, and even if some videos underperform, it's crucial to analyse and improve for next time.”
Meanwhile, the actor says that bagging shows today also depends on your social media performance. “Social media can provide references for talent, making casting easier and quicker. Casting directors now take less time to cast characters because of social media. However, bad casting will affect the quality of the final product. A good actor should fit the character well. Social media is just another resource to find talent, and there is nothing wrong with casting based on social media following.”
